# Adjusting leverage

Leverage lets you control a larger position with a smaller amount of capital.

It magnifies both gains and losses.

***

## How leverage works

Leverage borrows funds from the platform, using your own capital as collateral, so you can open a bigger position than your margin alone would allow.

**Total position size = Margin × Leverage**

On Hash Hedge, leverage can be set from **1x to 5x** on all available trading pairs.

## How to adjust it

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Go to the **Trade** screen.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
On the right side, click the leverage button (it shows your current setting, e.g. **Leverage 5X**).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Choose a level from **1x to 5x**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Confirm**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
For the same margin, higher leverage increases both your position size and your risk. Keep your loss limits in mind when choosing a level.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://hashhedge.gitbook.io/hashhedge-user-guide/trading-terminal/leverage.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
